PERSONALITY:
Lucinda’s Wand, by Garrick Ollivander
ACACIA WOOD: A very unusual wand wood, which I have found creates tricky wands that often refuse to produce magic for any but their owner, and also withhold their best effects from all but those most gifted. This sensitivity renders them difficult to place, and I keep only a small stock for those witches or wizards of sufficient subtlety, for acacia is not suited to what is commonly known as ‘bangs-and-smells’ magic. When well-matched, an acacia wand matches any for power, though it is often underrated due to the peculiarity of its temperament.
UNICORN HAIR: Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard. Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may ‘die’ and need replacing.
Lucinda was born with a very light temperament, one that was consistently pleasant and enjoyable to be around, as well as a warm heart. She is a wonderful friend, good listener, and objective advisor. Genuine in her sentiments, Lucinda dislikes very few people. She is not concerned with gossip or whisperings, instead choosing to judge people based on the impression they give directly to her, rather than through the grapevine. Sometimes people are puzzled by her pure attitude, but they soon find there is little to doubt.
Always the optimist, Lucinda, or Lindy or Linda, will always look on the bright side of a problem. She isn’t overly chipper or obnoxiously upbeat, rather cool and composed almost always. Nothing makes her happier than seeing the happiness of others, which is why she rarely discusses her own issues or insecurities. She is a dedicated student, a slave to her charmwork. There are some subjects she truly doesn’t find appealing, those including Care of Magical Creatures, Flying, and Divination.
Because she is acutely aware of her own faults (and does struggle with self-esteem issues), Linda is sure not to judge others based on their own weaknesses. She has a solid moral compass- she is a kind, loving soul with a talent for wandwork. I wonder where that came from…
There's some notes in here... Were they writing their freaking life story? HISTORY: Very few people know the story of Garrick Ollivander. He had a wife, Helena, and two children, a son, Gregor, and a daughter, Gloria, who sadly passed away in her early childhood. Many people only saw the eccentric shopkeeper, and not the possibility of him being a family man. Gregor grew up a strong, powerful wizard, and soon married and started a family of his own. His wife, Tabitha, bore a single son, who he named Gervasius, keeping in tradition with names given to Ollivander sons. Gervasius himself grew up a spitting image of his father in both appearance and intelligence, and married the beautiful Melinda Snow. Together, the pair had a beautiful baby daughter, the first Ollivander female since the passing of Gloria. They named her Lucinda Calista.
Linda Ollivander took after many of her family members, but she was especially adored by her Great-Grandfather, the great Ollivander himself, owner of Ollivander’s. The elderly man, despite getting on in age, was brought to life every time he saw his great-granddaughter, and he always offered to care for her in her parent’s absence. She filled a void in his life, one caused by the death of his own daughter. It was because of this Lucinda began her appreciation of wandlore, and she was learning from none other than Britian’s, possibly the world’s, best. From a young age, Lindy (as her great-grandfather called her- she called him Grandpa Garrick) would run between the aisles of wands, constantly plucking boxes off the shelves and inspecting. Garrick especially loved pulling a wand himself, holding it out to her, and having her guess its core and wood type. Right before she got her Hogwarts letter, he even taught her how to weigh.
As expected, the summer of her eleventh birthday, a Hogwarts letter came in the mail. There was much disparity over this very typical event, because Garrick appealed to his grandson, asking if he could tutor Lucinda himself. He was acutely aware of her avid interest in wandlore, and extremely sensitive to her talent in the subject. Pleading with his family, he succeeded their allowing him to teach their daughter, supplementing her education with bouts of wand knowledge and practicum. Because of these unique circumstances, Lucinda did not have very many friends throughout her early adolescence. Living in the apartment above the wand shop, she was family friends with the students that happened to also live in Diagon Alley, but those families were few. Oddly, her existence was relatively unknown, as Garrick was very protective and private about his personal, family life.
When she turned sixteen, Lucinda had a series of conversations with her great-grandfather over the importance of finishing her education at Hogwarts. Though Ollivander was a gifted wizard in many areas of life, he simply could not provide her with the information and assistance that NEWT professors could. Garrick, who loved and cared for Lucinda as his own daughter, had to let her go. And away she went to Hogwarts for the first time, to finally see all the excitement and hubbub that she’d heard about. She was sorted, undoubtedly, into Ravenclaw, where she immediately fit in amongst many of her peers, winning them over with her laugh and charm.
