PERSONALITY:

Frosty. That’s how one will judge Quintus on first look. No matter how he’s feeling, he’s able to hide it entirely. His reactions are always kept at a minimum, remaining inscrutable. You won’t see him flush, frown or grin. Smiling? It’s a rare event but do know that whenever he smiles, it’s genuine. Needless to say, don’t expect him to jump when you decide to scare him by leaping out of a corner. (That’s just a silly thing to do.) Quintus is a rather self-sacrificing person. That is, towards the few friends he has. He can be extremely protective and compassionate. Ask anything of him and he’ll do it, even if it means he’ll get into trouble for it. Quintus likes his independence. He doesn’t like anyone telling him what to do. He’s a hard worker and if left on his own, he can definitely produce results. He is a responsible young man. If he said he would be doing something, you can be sure that he’ll do it. You’ll never get an empty promise from him.

Quintus doesn’t like personal questions nor does he enjoy talking about his family, or perhaps his lack of one. He much prefers to scrutinise other people. He’s highly intuitive and can figure out what’s going on behind the scenes in situations. Quintus doesn’t like to show any weaknesses and most certainly doesn’t like it when someone holds power over him. Authority figures are not his favourite people. He’s prone to suspicions and being vengeful. He’s rather unforgiving and often feels a need to take revenge. There are times when he wouldn’t be content with evening the score, but he must obliterate his enemy or at least, make him sorry. He could hold the bitterness inside for a long period of time, never taking action and in the end, hurting himself. And there are times when Quintus is able to forgive and forget. But it’s rare.

HISTORY:

Mandy Brocklehurst was a woman who loved challenges. And when her friends asked her to approach the mysterious looking male in the corner on a girls’ night out, she couldn’t refuse. Cassius Warrington had just come back from Romania, where he had been unceremoniously kicked out of his job for letting a dragon escape. Naturally, he was drowning his sorrows and wondering what the heck he was going to do with the rest of his life when Mandy approached him. Cassius brushed her off, it had been a blonde, not unlike Mandy, who had distracted Cassius from his dragon guarding duties. Needless to say, he wasn’t up for any female company. Mandy pouted, went back to her friends. That was the first time these two met.

Neither recognised each other from Hogwarts. Mandy had been a rather studious Ravenclaw and had paid no attention to blokes during her seven years in Hogwarts. Cassius was a few years above her and a Slytherin who played Quidditch. Ladies? Sure, he had his fair share but Mandy hadn’t yet blossomed enough to catch his attention back then. The second meeting between these two was much better. Cassius applied for a job with the Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau in the Ministry and got it. Mandy was working in the Department of International Magical Cooperation. And they bumped into each other more times than was normal during Cassius’s first few weeks.

Mandy had sort of stalked Cassius, but well, the man didn’t know that. She approached him again. This time Cassius was in a better mood and the two started talking. It soon became a routine for them. He’d be waiting for her during lunch and Mandy would come up and tell him all about her day. Gradually, Cassius fell for the smart blonde woman. They entered a relationship, and a year after, they moved in together. Neither brought up the topic of marriage. Neither felt the need to cement their relationship with a ring and vow.

When Mandy first discovered she was pregnant, she was thrilled. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy, whom Cassius named Quintus Tiberus. It was after holding his newborn son in his arms that Cassius finally asked Mandy to marry him. It seemed like all was going well. The two got married and two years later Quintus was joined by a pair of twin sisters, Venus and Vesta. Quintus enjoyed playing with his two sisters who to him at the age, looked like little blonde fairies. Any of Cassius’s friends would be hard pressed to say that they foresaw this happening. Him, settling down with a wife and children.

It was when Quintus was eight that he witnessed the death of his mother. Mandy had taken a day off work to spend with her children. Quintus was entertaining his sisters while Mandy looked on when there was a knock on the door. Mandy got up but the door was soon blasted open and Mandy was met with a flash of green light. “No, not him.” He heard someone say before his sisters were plucked out of his arms. For Quintus had grabbed both his sisters and was trying to run away. And then he was knocked out.

Cassius came home that evening to find the dead body of his wife and his unconscious son. Quintus told his father what happened, which wasn’t much. All the boy could remember was the green flash and his sisters being taken away from him. And that sweet lovely voice. His father changed after that. He still went to work, but he got home late and he smelled of alcohol. He brought home various women, all blondes. Quintus didn’t think they compared to his mother and when he finally told his father that, he received a smack to his face.

Quintus went to Diagon Alley alone, when other children going to Hogwarts had their parents. His father sobered up enough to bring him to King’s Cross station on the day he was to go to Hogwarts before disappearing. The Sorting Hat placed him in Slytherin, apparently he wasn’t intelligent enough for Ravenclaw, his mother’s former house.

He never wrote any letters to his father, although, he has a stack of letters to his sisters, whom he envisioned would still be alive. The words he heard on the day of his mother’s death had been haunting him ever since. It was only in recent years that Quintus started browsing through his father’s journals that chronicled his time in Romania. His father was barely hanging on to his job at the Ministry and it would come as no surprise to Quintus if his father got sacked. It’s now his last year in Hogwarts. Quintus is keeping his head low and waiting until the end of his year here.

2022 – 2024 update

Quintus graduated from Hogwarts and got a job at the Ministry in the Beast Division. His father passed away in November 2022. In his seventh year, he struck up a friendship of sorts with Ariana Heaven Saft. The two met up with each other on a monthly basis during Hogsmeade weekends. They're now in a relationship and staying together.
